Holy Moly, it's been a long time since I wrote a blog!!! Sorry folks! : ) Here's an update about what's been going on in our world..... Lots, lots lots!
We're getting ready for an EPIC summer filled with so much fun, joy and love! We've got an amazing team of Lead Staff returning. and we're about to head out of town for our annual Lead Staff Retreat for four days. This year we're going to Sea Ranch, to work on our team bonding, learn new games and activities, meditate and expand what's possible! We're gearing up to open Kinderblast - our amazing, loving and super sweet preschool that will be at Cascade Canyon School! This is going to be truly unique and beautiful! And After School Camp at Homestead is rocking our world! We've taken field trips to Stolte Grove, Boyle and Molino Parks. We've learned how to make lots of delicious foods with local ingredients - all from scratch, fresh made tomato soup, grilled cheese, smoothies, granola, and fruit mandalas just to name a few! We've played epic games of dodgeball, gaga ball and tag-a-palooza! We've learned about the physics behind ice-skaters spinning so fast (angular momentum), made slime and had balloon races. And that's all in the just the last month! Basically, we're taking all the magic and love of Funderblast summer and sprinkling it throughout the year. Our mission and vision continues to be creating an environment where kids feel l0ved, seen and safe - a place where kids can THRIVE! Come join us! : ) ~Veronica

Well the school year is off to a great start and Funderblast is so excited about all the new offerings coming through! We have After School Camp both in Mill Valley, and in Fairfax. We're doubling up on School Holiday camps, and even offering Kids Night Out Parties every other week!
In other news, it was a fantastic summer! We had so much fun at our new campus in Fairfax, meeting new kids and families and spreading lots and lots of Louie Love! Below is a newsletter article I wrote for the Homestead Headlines over the summer... Check it out! Camp Funderblast Behind the Scenes “I don’t know what you’re doing at Funderblast, but my kids love it!” Is something I hear often. I also hear statements like, “Do you have magic fairy dust you sprinkle over camp?” (To which the answer is Yes!). “You always have the best staff!” and my favorite, “Funderblast feels like an alternate Universe.” Well, are you ready to be let in on a little secret? If so, read on and I’ll take you behind the scenes at Camp Funderblast. Part of what makes Camp Funderblast so magical and unique is the energy and intention behind it. People often ask me what I do throughout the school year and the answer is this – I teach awareness tools and active meditation that helps us be more conscious of what we are letting in our space – and what we are putting out into the world. And this simple intention is in the foundation of Camp Funderblast. So what are we putting out into the world? Every statement, every action, even every thought sends out ripples. If we can show up as our best, we invite others to do the same - kids, co-workers, family, friends, everyone!. And if we can be our best, while being aware of what we are putting out into the world – well then we just might actually create change. How we can truly teach is through leading by example – and this is exactly what I teach my staff. In fact, last Spring I took seven lead staffers on a four day retreat. We laughed, played, practiced chi gong, meditated, and tuned into the vibration, intention and messaging of what we want to put into the world and learned how to hold it. Communication with parents, kids and each other comes as a result of being grounded, present, clear and aligned. Often in our culture we focus on the outcome desired and what we want, rather than who we need to be. I have always believed if we are being who we came here to be – everything else aligns into place. So this is what I teach my staff, and this is how we show up at camp. This is how we invite the kids to show up too, as their best and brightest, and as a result – people are happy, loved and more peaceful. So come and join us – bring your kids, hang out at drop off, do an art project and smile, knowing you too can be your best. Since it feels so great shining bright in this loving environment, and showing up as our best – we are so grateful to be offering more opportunities! Our biggest challenge at the moment is trying to figure out how to get all this awesome info across! If you have any suggestions about how we can better format our website so it is clear - please leave a comment below! We are open to any and all feedback! : ) Lastly, if you'd like to watch the video from our lead staff retreat click here! We hope to see you soon! With love, Veronica Times are strange in the world. People feel scared, but one thing is true - kids still need to be loved! And that's what Funderblast is all about. The best way to teach is to lead by example. And that is our job, as parents, as teachers, as leaders, as friends, as camp counselors - to show up and be our best no matter what is going on in the world around us. Because as we show up - we give all others permission to do the same! Now more than ever we need to shine bright.
As we gear up for another year of Funderblast, now more than ever our intention is to create a safe and loving environment for kids to thrive, for kids to be kids, for kids to have fun, and plain and simply be their best! We are excited to be opening a third site this summer in Fairfax and to be partnering with Cascade Canyon School who's vision of impacting youth deeply aligns with Funderblast's. In true Funderblast spirit - How will you spread love and positive energy today? Greetings and Happy Spring. Trees are blooming, The clouds are beautiful and the days are getting longer! You know what that means..... Summer is just around the corner!
If you're a last minute planner like me (I would be the one trying to register the night before I need camp!) then you're in luck - as we still have space all weeks for summer! That said, the first few weeks at Scott Valley are filling up because swim team practice moves to mornings. But fear not! Sign up soon and you'll be just fine! Some of the things we're looking forward to about Spring & Summer are:
What are you looking forward to? Sending love and Funderblast light ~ ~Veronica and Louie! It's not long after the Christmas trees have been placed on the curb, the twinkle lights come down (well, mine are still up!), and the days slower get longer - that emails start coming in from well organized families planning their summers! Yes, every year it happens earlier and earlier and worry not - registration is going live soon!
February 1st registration opens for both Homestead Community Center and Scott Valley Swimming & Tennis Club. So check back with us soon to sign up your kids for the best, loving, local, small day camp around! If you have any questions feel free to call or email and we'll get right back to you. Thanks so much and Happy New Year! ~Veronica Thank You for an amazing and successful summer 2015! It was better than we ever could have imagined! And thanks so much to our amazing staff of counselors and CIT's! (Pictured right). Check out our Club Funderblast page to find out about the upcoming school year events at Scott Valley Swimming and Tennis Club! If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me! With love and gratitude, Veronica Summer camp starts a week from today and we have been busy, busy, busy over here gearing up! Lots of exciting news behind-the-scenes: Homestead's Louie was born! It's true - each site will have their own Louie the Lightning Bolt of Love and the kids who have come to school year Club Funderblast events have been asking me every time I see them if I have made the new Louie yet... well now it's happened! And his hugs and love are just as magnificent! Here is a photo of Amelia hugging both Louies. You can see the immense amount of love she's receiving! Also in Funderblast news - if you didn't see us - we were in the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade with a big crew of 48 kids and parents. We had an awesome truck decorated, a convertible, lots of bubbles and stickers we were handing out. Not to mention all the good vibes and joy we spread through town. So much in fact that we won a trophy for "Best Business." We were very excited about that! Summer is rapidly approaching! Are you ready? If not don't worry, you're not the only one!
Each year I notice that families begin registering earlier and earlier, which can feel like a lot of pressure, but if you're slower to plan worry not, so am I! And remember, everything always works out just as it needs to! So that said, Week 1 (the week of June 22nd) is full at Scott Valley. But the good news is that Funderblast is at Homestead too! And we still have space there! So rally your kids friends and come on down to Homestead, although Scott Valley is amazing (and Funderblast's original home) you can't beat the beautiful field at Homestead Valley Community Center and the myriad of awesome hiking trails a stones throw away. And in other great news for Homestead - Mariah Nimmons has just come on board team-Funderblast to be the Site Director! I have known Mariah since she was a tiny middle-schooler and a Counselor-In-Training with me at Camp Doodles! Mariah is amazing, inspired and just what Funderblast was calling in! Formerly known as Skittles, Mariah is excited to represent Louie the Lightning Bolt of Love at our new location. Here is a little info about her: Mariah Nimmons was raised in Mill Valley and has been working at summer camps since meeting Veronica as a Counselor-In-Training in 2005. An alumna of Park School, MVMS, and Tamalpais High School, Mariah graduated from Pitzer College in Southern California with a degree in Organizational Studies, concentrated in leadership and management. Previously the Director of Camp Doodles, Mariah has learned some of her greatest lessons, shared her longest laughs, and found her closest friends at summer camp. She looks forward not only to experiencing more of the same in her first year as a Funderblaster, but to helping others create these memories as well. In her free time, Mariah loves to read and to create through visual, linguistic, and gastronomical mediums. Her greatest passion? People! She enjoys meeting them, learning about them, and loving them! If you need anything, or have any questions don't hesitate to email me, or leave a comment! I look forward to getting to know you and your family this summer! With love, Veronica I am excited and grateful for so many reasons!
It is great that Funderblast has been such a hit in the Scott Valley Community, and that Homestead Valley has not only seen this, but requested Funderblast's presence in their own neighborhood! If someone had told me when I was 13 and a Counselor-In-Training for the Mill Valley Parks and Recs Department that I would still be running summer camps into my 30's I would have laughed. But it's true, and I couldn't be more pleased with where this road has taken me. Creating an environment where children can thrive is a gift. I have worked on many projects, helped many businesses grow, and supported many friends with their visions - to be at a place where I am watering my own creation feel magnificent! I believe that each child (each human!) is unique and amazing, and that in the right space, with the right energy we can all thrive. My intention is to create a camp that offers just this - a place where kids can thrive. As I am sure you have learned throughout the text on the website, this has become a Funderblast reality. I'd love to hear from you if you have thoughts to share, or questions to ask. Just visit the contact page and send me a message! Thanks, I look forward to getting to know you and your family. |
